Passengers stand in their Southwest Airlines boarding groups at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose SJC Airport.Quick Take

This card is worth holding if you fly Southwest several times each year. The A1-A15 boardings alone are fantastic if you regularly take long flights: they give you a better shot at scoring a bulkhead or exit row seat. The 7,500 bonus points (starting year two) and $75 annual travel credit offset a chunk of the annual fee.

Points earning-wise, it’s fine. To be honest, a better strategy is earning points on a Chase Ultimate Rewards card — while using the Rapid Rewards Priority® card for the Southwest benefits. Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Southwest Rapid Rewards.

Fine print, per Chase: “(This product is) available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.”
