Being a “meatitarian” one of my absolute favorite restaurants on any Norwegian Cruise Lines ship is the Brazilian steak house call Moderno. Not only do you have a constant and never ending supply of proteins walking past you (when you have the green card face up) but it is also one of the most reasonable and cheapest fixed price specialty restaurants you can visit. Just look at the below and drool:
I mean – dude – wow right? A pro tip if you have never been at this place is to ask for a smoking hot plate (don’t touch it) before the meats arrive. When half way done ask for another new hot one. Oh what a treat. But the sad part is this stunning – amazing – dining experience is going away on the new ships.
One of the replacement restaurants NCL has installed is Los Lobos Mexican restaurants. I have been there – ONCE – never again. It is a glorified Taco Bell and will never be worth the upcharge even if it is a “free” included visit. It is the only fail I would ever say NCL has done for years.
But the other new-ish specialty restaurant they have come up with is a stunning winner and one I will never ever miss and may visit more than once on longer sailings and that restaurant is:
Now I freely admit I am not a huge fan of the name. I mean I love “Q” from Start Trek but Q BBQ? It seems a bit overly simplistic. That said I “get” the concept of the restaurant. I mean a live band, rustic decorations and then the star, the BBQ – ON A CRUISE SHIP! Take a look at some shots:
Are you impressed? If not – you should be. I mean this is Hard Eight (yes I went there) quality BBQ ON A CRUISE SHIP! In fact I will go so far as to say this may be the best brisket I have ever had anywhere!
Oh no – don’t even – really?
Yup! Really really. I am not kidding. In fact I was told they do use real wood to smoke the meat – ON A CRUISE SHIP! I am sorry but is this simply insane or what?
While I apologize for the quality of the photo – the meats still speak for themselves. The “Pitmaster Platter” is included in the specialty package and it also includes an appetizer and sides as well.
Now this is how to have your bacon and eggs! 🙂
We only went here once on our last 7 day sailing on the Joy because we simply had no idea just how good this was going to be. Next time we find a Q BBQ on a ship we will be sure to book it more than once.
