When you think of most hotel, airline and other loyalty programs you sign up and get a number and then you go ahead and book whatever you want already logged in as a member of the program. With Norwegian it does not work this way. Rather, once you book and sail, you automatically become a member of their Latitudes program. On their info page about the program it says:

After your first cruise with Norwegian, you’re automatically enrolled in our Latitudes Rewards program so you can unlock a world of rewards that gives you access to the extraordinary. Enjoy exclusive onboard experiences, discounts, offers for members only and much more. Plus, the more you sail with us, the more you earn, so elevating your status is a breeze.” – NCL.com

So their focus, as stated, is to only reward you as a “member” once you have sailed with them – not before. But it only takes one cruise and you are in.

Something new NCL has been doing over the past year or so is popping up targeted offers only for members. You get there by logging in to your account and then:

Click on “My NCL” and then “View Account” tab. That will take you not only to all the cruises you have booked but also any Cruise First or Cruise Next coupons you currently hold.

It will also now show you any targeted offers for you and or for Latitudes members. For me there are two. The first one is for a members only cruise I have no interest in. The next one however I am very interested in.

I have been searching NCL for Alaska cruises as that is one sailing I have never taken and it is high up on my to do list. In fact this offer has motivated me to book an Alaska cruise with NCL – but the booking was a bit of a nightmare I will blog about later.

I am not sure if this is what triggered the targeted offer that I received or if it was was sent out to all Latitudes members. If the first then I will have to do a bunch of other searches for other itineraries I have been thinking about and see if they send me an offer for those as well. – René
