Chase and IHG recently launched new welcome promotions for their co-branded credit cards, including statement credit opportunities.

New members of the card_name can bonus_miles bonus_miles_disclaimer. The card carries a annual_fees annual fee — but features many benefits we like and use. (Read more here and learn how to apply for this promotion.)

Meanwhile, you can bonus_miles bonus_miles_disclaimer when you’re approved for the no-annual-fee card_name. (Read more here and learn how to apply for this promotion.)

These limited-time offers expire on September 27, 2023. Remember that these are Chase credit cards — which means they’re subject to the 5/24 rule. This means you’ll (likely) be automatically declined if you’ve been approved for five or more credit cards within the past rolling 24 months.

Is the Statement Credit Worth it?

Like most things in life — including the points and miles world — this is pretty subjective. If you stay at limited-service properties (i.e., Holiday Inn Expresses), these promotions might not be the best for you. You’ll have to charge a lot of Diet Pepsis, candy bars, and microwave popcorn from the hotel’s snack shack to get the most bang for your statement credit buck.

But the statement credit may be pretty helpful if you patronize IHG hotels with restaurants, bars, spas, cabanas, etc..

IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card Perks

My wife and I have our own card_names. We love the annual anniversary Reward Night (starting the second year of card membership). You can redeem that for rooms valued at 40,000 points or less. If you crave something a little spendier than that, IHG allows you to apply reward points to cover the difference.

We also like the complimentary Platinum Elite status — which scores us the odd upgrade here and there. It’s also come in handy for some status matches, too. Cardmembers can earn Diamond Elite status after spending $40,000 on purchases with their card each calendar year.

Points-wise, you can earn:

  • Up to 26X total points per dollar spent on eligible purchases at IHG hotels & resorts
  • 5X on travel
  • 5X on dining
  • 5X at gas stations
  • 3X on all other eligible purchases

I don’t know how often fellow cruisers will need this but another benefit we’ve used a few times is the “4th Night Free.” When cardmembers redeem points for a consecutive four-night stay, they can receive the fourth Reward Night free (during the same stay at that hotel). In other words, redeem points for the first three nights of your stay, and the fourth night’s redemption is free. This can be rather lucrative for those land-only vacations you take 🙂 .

Plus, cardholders may earn up to $100 in statement credit every four years for TSA PreCheck® or NEXUS application fees charged to the card.

United Airlines travelers holding the card may receive up to $50 in United® TravelBank Cash each calendar year to use on United Airlines purchases. All they need to do is add the card as a payment method to their United Airlines account.

IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card

The card_name works fine for people who don’t like annual fees — or bells and whistles.

It doesn’t come with elite status or a Reward Night. But cardholders can take advantage of the Fourth Night Free benefit.

Earnings-wise:

  • Up to 17X total points per dollar spent on eligible purchases at IHG hotels & resorts
  • 3X on monthly bills
  • 3X at gas stations
  • 3X at restaurants
  • 2x on all other eligible purchases

Time to Set Sail!

A pair of IHG credit cards — the card_name and card_name both feature statement credit opportunities as part of their welcome offers expiring on September 27, 2023.

I’m a fan of the card_name because of its Reward Night and elite status. Plus, you can enjoy a pretty lovely stay (or two) with the offer’s bonus points.

  1. I get incredible value out of the annual free night credits on my IHG credit cards that well exceed the annual fee on the cards. Recent redemptions pre/post cruises included – Intercontinental Ljubljana, Intercontinental Lisbon (two stays), Intercontinental Miami, Intercontinental Doral (used during F1 race last year saving nearly $1,000), amongst others. Chase and IHG frequently put out spending bonuses on these cards (unadvertised benefit). My most recent offer for this summer is 7x points on gas and restaurant purchases and 5x on grocery stores. Registration required.
