Here’s a great way to boost your points stash!

Amazon purchases are one of the Chase Freedom FlexSM card’s 5% cashback (5X Chase Ultimate Rewards® points) categories for 2023’s second quarter (April 1 – June 30). Lowe’s purchases are Flex’s other bonus category. The promotion is limited to $1,500 in eligible purchases (which yields 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards® points.)

I’ll burn through that pretty quickly! Perhaps like you, I’m a frequent Amazon customer. Plus, I need grilling and smoking supplies for spring and summer barbeques (Easter, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Fourth of July). I generally buy smoker chips from Lowe’s — either through their website or in person at a local store. (Remember to start your Lowe’s.com shopping session through a cashback portal such as Rakuten — and earn extra cashback!)

Registration is required and live right now at ChaseBonus.com. You can enroll through June 14, 2023. So, if you don’t yet hold the card, this gives you some time to apply and still take advantage of the promotion.

Remember that you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to certain other cards — and redeem them for even better values.

The No-Annual-Fee Chase Freedom FlexSM

The Chase Freedom FlexSM card’s signature feature is its quarterly bonus spending categories that earn 5% cashback (awarded as 5X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent) on eligible purchases.

Here’s a sample of some of the quarterly categories.

This is how 2023 starts:

  • 2023 Q1: January – March
    • Grocery Stores (excluding Walmart)
    • Target
    • Fitness Clubs & Gym Memberships
  • 2023 Q2: April – June
    • Amazon purchases
    • Lowe’s purchases

This is what 2022’s bonus categories were:

  • Q1: January – March
    • Grocery stores (excluding Target and Walmart)
    • eBay
  • Q2: April – June
    • Amazon purchases
    • Select streaming services
  • Q3: July – September
    • Gas stations
    • Rental car agencies
    • Movie theaters
    • Select live entertainment
  • Q4: October – December
    • PayPal
    • Walmart

The Chase Freedom FlexSM carries a $0 annual fee — so if you don’t like a quarter’s bonus categories, there’s no harm in holding the card. But, honestly, look at the above list. Chances are you’ll find something you can use each quarter. (I love the PayPal option that usually is available in Q4 — it’s a great way to save money when purchasing holiday gifts online).

The Chase Freedom FlexSM is great to use at drugstores in major cities — you can load up on bottled water, soda, snacks, etc., for cheaper prices than at a hotel.
